Relationships are like a semi-transparent lantern. You wish to see the candlelight inside, but it's just a shifting illusion. One afternoon, I happened to watch a film by Tsai Ming-liang on the Mubi channel. It featured a long conversation between him and his regular actor, Lee Kang-sheng. This in-depth discussion about relationships felt like observing the movement of light points inside a lantern from outside a glass tank, in a fixed position. It employs a language with clarity, yet it floats in another parallel dimension of time. This is also the reason why I enjoy doing photography work.
